Novo projeto de roteador para redes fotônicas| Sociedade Brasileira de Física
Esquema do roteador óptico composto de quatro micro-anéis ressonantes (MRR), capaz de receber quatro sinais diferentes S, guiados até as saídas X.

A edição de outubro do Brazilian Journal of Physics (BJP) traz mais uma proposta de dispositivo roteador de sinais ópticos que pode ser integrado em redes fotônicas contidas em um chip de silício microscópico, com aplicações na transmissão de dados pela internet. Jayanta Kumar Rakshit, do Instituto Nacional de Tecnologia de Agartala, Tripura, Índia, desenvolveu um roteador óptico composto de quatro micro-anéis ressonantes interligados por guias de onda. O estudo mostra como o dispositivo é capaz de minimizar interferências e perdas na transmissão de sinais.

Testes com sinais produzidos por uma fonte laser mostraram eficiência na transmissão de sinais: a razão entre as potências usadas para transmitir cada bit diferente de informação foi de no mínimo 14 dB. Além disso, o dispositivo se mostrou capaz rotear seus quatro sinais de entrada com baixo consumo de energia e alta velocidade de comutação.
